Sir Charles Parsons Year 14 Work Experience

Our Year 14’s are students who have special educational needs and disabilities and have spent most of their education in special education schools. While in Year 14 they attend a full days work experience placement once a week.

The work experience placement helps our students gain an ASDAN CoPE qualification. More importantly, it gives them the tools and confidence to move onto the next stage of their adult life; building on their life skills, practical skills, development of interpersonal skills and helping to build their self-confidence and resilience.

Over the last two years we have built up relationships with Hair 265, Byker Hall Care Home, St Oswalds Warehouse, Dog and Cat shelter charity shop and M&S Outlet in Byker, who have all provided amazing placements for our students every Wednesday. Some have even given our Year 12 and 13s the opportunity to experience a full week on a work placement.

We are excited to have been offered a placement at Lawson House, part of the Dale Care Care Services. It is an exciting opportunity for our students to gain valuable experience and an opportunity to build relationships between the home and our students. We are already discussing an activity day that our students will plan and deliver at Lawson House.

If you are able to offer a work experience placement please get in touch with lorna.wiseman@walker.academy.

“Experiencing the world of work is a vital part of education for our students. The classroom alone cannot equip students with the skills and experiences needed to enable them to fit into and contribute to society fully. Equally, the experience can often change minds and perceptions about sector working and broaden horizons and shape future ambitions. We are grateful to all our partners for the valuable experience they offer”
