JUNIOR clubs from across Tyneside took part in the inaugural Improtech Soccer Under 11 Challenge Cup at Walker Riverside Academy during the recent festive break.


Walker Riverside is launching a new soccer academy, in conjunction with Improtech, in September 2019 and the Challenge Cup was a way of bringing talented young players in Newcastle together and testing them against each other.

Taking part in the event on Walker’s 3G pitch were Newcastle City Juniors Sparta, Montagu and Fenham Blues, Newcastle Boys Club Milan, Newcastle East End Reds, Walker Central Blacks, Newcastle East End Blues and Newcastle East End Yellows.

The eventual winners were Montagu and Fenham Blues, winning a closely fought game 3-0 on penalties (3-0 ) after a hard-fought 0 -0 draw against Newcastle City Juniors Sparta in the final.

Third, was Newcastle East End Reds who defeated Newcastle Boys Club Milan were fourth.

Improtech’s Director of Football Education, Steve Golightly, who organised the competition, said: “It was a very successful first event and I’d like to thank all the players, their coaches and the clubs for taking part.

“The games were played to a high standard and in great spirit by all the boys and girls who played, despite freezing cold conditions, and as a result of how well it went and the feedback we received we will be looking to make this an annual event in Newcastle."
